Evolution, is my answer. the word "Social" has changed from normal interaction to Internet based. People are now communicating with tens if not hundreds of others daily. Using shortcuts is not just a fun way of doing it. No, its a necessity. It now has its own people and culture and I think that has to be respected. I think that anyone who doesn't agree with Shortcuts and "Internet Slang", either doesn't understand it or didn't put much effort into it. I think that Ms. Fogarty has the correct idea about it. Students must be able to distinguish between formality and conversations. They will need to put they're ideas into paper as fast as they can so they would need to use shortcuts and keywords that maybe only they can understand. after that they need to translate those keywords into proper English for classes. I think that internet slang should be encouraged because it shows progress into nowadays youth.
